Textile and circularity 1st part - Thousands of liters of water per shirt

2500 liters of water are used per t-shirt. In the Czech Republic, over 200,000 tons of textiles are thrown away every year. Here is the first part of a series about textile waste and the possibilities of its recycling.

Over 8 million tons of plastic reach the seas and oceans every year. More than a million seabirds and 100,000 marine animals die each year as a result of this waste. In 2016, 480 billion plastic bottles were sold. These numbers are terrifying and humanity is beginning to realize this and reduce the numbers. But what about such textiles? Why is it neglected?

The European Commission has calculated that European Union citizens throw over 5.8 million tonnes of textiles a year. In the Czech Republic, over 200,000 tons of textiles are thrown away every year. At the same time, it is possible to introduce the principles of circular economics in the textile industry as well. From one t-shirt to the whole collection.

So whether the company wants to get rid of a large amount of clothing, cotton, polyester or leather scraps, for example, it can give these valuable materials a second chance, for example in the waste market. The journey of textiles to the landfill will be further extended.
